Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) is a totally unique form of massage originating from Pune in Western India. The technique combines traditional forms of Indian massage known as Ayurvedic with assisted yoga postures. 

 

This type of massage is well known in India and Brazil but is a fairly new concept in the western world with approximately only 30 trained practitioners in the whole of the UK.

 

 

During a session deep tissue massage is used to warm the muscles and begin the process of relieving built up tension. The assisted yoga stretches then increase flexibility, range of movement and alignment of the body.

 

Coordinated breath-work is used to help you ease into each assisted stretch achieving your full potential whilst improving energy flow around the body. 

 

The massage includes the whole body beginning on the back and finishing with the eyes. At the end of an intensive session a small towel will be placed over your eyes and you are left for a few minutes to enjoy some peace allowing your body and mind to settle. 

 

An optional part of deep tissue massage involves the practitioner using their feet as massage tools. The practitioner’s weight is supported by a stool, while the feet are used to provide a greater pressure while working into the deeper muscles of the back, shoulders and legs. 

 

AYM is performed on a mat allowing ease of movement and a full range of stretching. Traditional Ayurvedic oils and a herbal powder are used for their healing, detoxifying and exfoliating properties. 

 

 

This type of massage aims to leave the client with a deep sense of wellbeing, a greater range and ease of movement and a release of built up tension.  

It is suitable for all levels of fitness and flexibility or inflexibility as the case may be. You do not need to have any knowledge of yoga just a desire to feel freer in your movements and to have relief from muscular aches and pains.
